Mr.
Jones at and son, Devin on Upper Chena River, Alaska; summer 1998. Devin
went on many fly-fishing excursions that year. He hasn't gone since
as he is autistic. Shann hopes that Devin develops an interest in fishing
someday. |

Sir
Rusty Crayon is Shann's constant fly-fishing companion and
provides a measure of comfort to students during field exercises.
In fact he is the only dog at UAF to have his own e-mail. To ask him
a question, click here. |
Heather Kurka originally developed this website and worked as Mr. Jones' assistant during Spring 2004. |
|
Former
students Dave Miller (Summer 2004) and John Napolski (Spring 2004)
were invaluable during the Fall 2004 term helping out where needed
and when asked during field trips and fly tying exercises for both
the introductory and intermediate fly-fishing classes. |
|
John
Napolski and Carl Roberts assisted many students in the Spring
2005 Introductory class with learning the fine art of fly tying.
This duo was also very helpful during field trips, assisting
students with their fly casting and fishing techniques. |
|
Shawn
Armstrong (far left), one
of Mr. Jones UAF sport fishing students from his initial class, gave his
time freely to help instruct students on the finer points of fly tying from
Fall 2003 through Spring 2005. |

Mr.
Tom Lakin with a mess of arctic grayling taken on the Chatanika River
near Whitefish Campground in 2004. The next summer Tom helped
Mr. Jones put on the first Science of Alaska Sport Fishing workshop
held June 3-5, 2005 at Denali National Park and Preserve in cooperation
with the Murine Science and learning Center. Tom teaches physcial education
in Tennessee and tries to make to Alaska in the summer time to engage in
a little "Hillbilly Fly-fishing" with his mentor, Mr. Jones. |
